SQL Temp Tables

by fkerrigan @ 19. Jul 2007 - 09:29:00

Had a coliation issue trying to create a temp table on a database. It worked for 2005, 2000 64bit, but not for one 2000database.

Create this sort of temp table produced a coliation issue will trying a select  using the temp table.

DECLARE  @Temp TABLE (Item varchar(50))

How ever when using

CREATE TABLE #Temp (Item varchar(50))

this worked fine.  Rather odd error as the two lines do exactly the same. The first one will create the table in memory and the second will create it  on disk.  SQL server will overrule either command and do what it thinks best and create in memory or disk regardless to your wishes. The first for small table should be quicker.

Busy Weekend

by fkerrigan @ 16. Jul 2007 - 09:29:33

Friday:
In work late doing a rollout. Not my code I was doing my DBA role and installation of stuff. All seemed to go well except for an odd issue with Versions of MS EntLib 1.1 was not installed.

Went to pub with AW and called GB as well. Drunk lots of raspberry beer and got a taxi home in the rain.

Sat:
Work 8am hanging about for instructions and looking at odds and sodas. Got home about 3.

Sun:
Fitted new caliper onto GBs CK125, easy enough but there seemed to be a lot of air in the there. Left it to settle and will try it when it drys up.

by fkerrigan @ 14. Jul 2007 - 12:18:41

So you go onto XBOX.COM, click support read the web regarding a failed 360. Fill in a form and post it to support. This is the 3rd time MS XBOX team has done this to me, all they so is point you at the web page that requests you to fill in an online form. What is the point. This is just being lazy and closing off call so someones call stats look good. It does not serve the customer (me) one bit.

Harry Potter and the Why Bother

by fkerrigan @ 13. Jul 2007 - 08:43:27

Saw the lastest film last night "Order of the pheonix" and its poor, don't get me wrong the acting is good, visual effects are very good, but if falls down on the story. The plot is rubbish and my 12 year old couldn't follow the plot which is not suprising as there isn't one. My 10 year old boy did not care as there was enough visual effects to keep him interested. Neither would go and see it again.

Will I buy the DVD, eh.... no, but my wife will anyway.

New Bike CB350sg

by fkerrigan @ 10. Jul 2007 - 12:50:20

Had this for over a month or so now so can now write a wee bit on living with it.

Starts first time even though its a 1988 bike and is left out in the rain and only thing I do is put petrol in it. The ride is quite good and is a breeze to nip about town with. The first tank of petrol lasted about a month riding in 3 days a week.

There is still a slight backfire so the carbs need a small rebalance or a clean out. The rubbers attaching to the heads will not last a removal so I will try and rebalance without removing it.

Running costs are cheap bike:£300, Insurance:£40 year, tax £32 year.

Need a back tyre asap though so have to get the new side stand on; which I got from ebay for £6 (massive £10 postage).

Long time no blog

by fkerrigan @ 10. Jul 2007 - 12:36:40

Never seem to get the time for blogging. So here goes catchup........

Finish my first OU course MST121 Using Mathematics, missed the last CMA so I've dropped 10% straight off....doh... So I will get more like 70ish % opposed to 80ish %.

Still doing the second year course MS221 Exploring mathematics which I'm averaging 88% on my TMAs. Even got an exam date as welll golly... I much prefer continue assessment though as I do much better with this generally.

Not sure what to doe next, fancy a java course to how the universe works or maybe stick to maths. I'll likley make a last min inpulse before feb.
